All volunteers, board members, community partners, and guests who contributed and participated in our event, we send our heartfelt gratitude to you all !Our very own Birdie Buddies program students also had an exciting opportunity to meet and play games with the guests, including former Dodgers player #ChanHoPark and #adrianbeltre !We are grateful to have so many people supporting our mission of making our society an inclusive place for individuals with developmental disabilities. More pictures will be uploaded tomorrow–so, check out a sneak peak of our event yesterday! 오랫동안 고대해왔던 제4회 KASEC골프대회를 성황리에 마쳤습니다. 종일토록 즐거움과 웃음이 넘치는 하루였습니다. 어제 행사를 위해 땀 흘리며 수고해주신 모든 자원봉사자들과 센터의 이사님들, 후원해주신 지역사회 파트너들과 게스트 여러분들 모두에게 마음 깊은 곳으로부터 감사함을 전합니다.우리 센터의 골프 프로그램인 Birdie Buddies 학생들은 따로 부스를 마련하여 전 다저스 선수인 코리안특급 박찬호, Adrián Beltré 를 비롯한 많은 참가자들과 인사를 나누며 즐거운 게임을 했답니다. 우리 학생들에게는 정말 뜻깊은 경험이었습니다! 발달장애인들에게 더 포용적인 사회를 꿈꾸는 우리 센터의 미션을 지지해주시는 수많은 분들이 계시기에 얼마나 감사한지 모르겠습니다.

아이의 생후 첫 5년이 왜 그토록 중요한 걸까요? 두뇌발달의 대부분이 이 시기에 일어나기 때문입니다. 아이들은 5세가 될 때까지 사물을 변별하고 정보를 수집하면서 의미있는 뇌신경회로를 만듭니다. 또한 언어를 습득하고 행동을 배우죠. 이 중요성을 알기에 KASEC은 매년 발달선별검사를 개최하여 부모님들이 자녀의 성장발달을 체크하시도록 돕고 있습니다. 이번 9월에는 LA와 OC의 여러 데이케어, 유치원 등과 함께 협력하여 학부모님들께 특별한 기회를 제공하고 있습니다. 무료검사와 함께 후속상담과 부모교육, 영유아를 위한 선물까지 드린답니다. 이 프로젝트를 후원해준 가주 발달서비스국(DDS)과 정관장에 감사드립니다!
Do you know why children’s first 5 years are extremely important? The majority of primary brain growth is happening in those years: children are learning to categorize things, making meaningful connections, and acquiring language and behaviors. KASEC understands the importance, so we offer Free Developmental Screening every year to help parents keep their children’s growth in check. This September, we are providing a special offer to parents by collaborating with some of Daycares and Kindergartens in LA and OC: free screening, follow-up counseling, parent education, and gifts for infants. Thank you, DDS and Korea Red Ginseng Corp for supporting this project!
한미특수교육센터의 학부모회인 SEED mom(Support, Educate, Empower, Dream)은 KASEC의 여러가지 이벤트마다 팔 걷어부치고 도와주시며 서포트해주시는 부모님들의 모임입니다. SEED mom 어머님들이 8월 행아웃으로 커피 데이트 시간을 가졌습니다. 커피를 추출하고 내리는 방법을 배우며 또 음미하는 즐거운 시간이었답니다.이 뉴노멀 시대에 부모님들이 힘과 역량을 기르는 것은 어느 때보다 중요하다고 믿습니다. 그리고 부모님들의 그 힘이 KASEC에게도 든든한 지원군이 될 것입니다. SEED mom의 행아웃은 앞으로도 계속됩니다!(요가, 페인팅, 꽂꽂이 등등 몇 가지 계획들 귀띔해드려요)
SEED mom (Support, Educate, Empower, Dream) is KASEC’s very own parent empower group, and for August’s hangout, we had a coffee date where we learned how to properly brew/drip coffee, taste, and enjoy! In this new normal, we believe in empowering the parents more than ever. More SEED mom hangout opportunities are coming up! (yoga, painting, and flower arrangement are in the plans!)

지난 8월 6일, KASEC의 스탭들이 엘에이에 다녀왔습니다. 지역사회의 백투스쿨 나눔행사를 지원하기 위해서였답니다. 엘에이의 Community Resource Center(CRC)와 함께 우리 센터를 비롯한 여러 단체들이 협력하여 3000명에게 백팩과 학용품, 개인위생용품, COVID-19 정보자료 및 식료품 등을 배포했습니다. 커뮤니티를 섬기는 일은 늘 보람있고 행복한 순간입니다. 앞으로도 LA와 OC에서 이런 기회를 더 많이 가질 예정입니다.
On August 6, KASEC went out to LA to support our community’s back to school distribution event. Community Resource Center (CRC) of LA, KASEC, and some other organizations collaborated to serve 3,000 individuals with backpack, school supplies, PPE items, COVID-19 related resources, and essential food! Always happy and grateful to serve our community and we will have more opportunities coming up for both LA and OC folks.

Candle Making Project
지난 7월 7일, 저희 센터에서 양초만들기 프로젝트에 열 가정을 초대했습니다. 이 특별한 시간은 Interest Discovery 프로젝트의 일환으로 발달장애인들의 직업 탐색을 돕기 위해 마련된 것입니다. 양초만들기를 관찰하고 배우고 실습해보는 동안 서로 교제하면서 어울리는 즐거운 기회도 가질 수 있었습니다. 조만간 더 많은 가정들이 양초만들기에 참여할 수 있기를 기대합니다.
On July 7, we invited 10 families to have a candle making project! As a part of our Interest Discovery project, we provided this special time for individuals with developmental disabilities to explore different job options. By watching, learning, and making the candles together, they also had a great time bonding and communicating with each other. We look forward to having more families participate and candle-ing together in the near future
Harmonia Membership Kickoff Dinner!
하모니아 앙상블의 새 출발을 기념하는 저녁식사모임이 7월 30일에 있었습니다. 이 자리에서는 오는 가을학기부터 새롭게 변화되는 하모니아의 새 멤버쉽 포맷과 방향성에 대해 정식으로 소개하는 기회를 가졌습니다. 앙상블 활동에는 2회 이상의 공연기회는 물론, 멤버들간의 유대를 높이는 활동들도 계획되어 있습니다. 현재 등록이 진행되고 있으니 지금 바로 조인하세요. 장애가 있든 없든, 음악과 악기 연주에 대한 열정을 가진 누구에게나 열려있습니다!
To formally introduce the new Harmonia membership format, we had a nice kickoff dinner on July 30. We shared the Membership format, perks, and agenda for the upcoming semester. There will be 2+ performance opportunities and bonding activities–the enrollment is still open! Register now to join the famous Harmonia Ensemble!
Harmonia Ensemble is open to anyone with or without disabilities who loves music and plays an instrument!
제 2회 발달장애인 미술대회 드림아트 컨테스트의 시상식과 전시회가 지난 7월 31일 소스몰에서 개최되었습니다. 300명이 넘는 방문객들이 발달장애인 아티스트들의 작품을 감상하고 축하해주었습니다. 수상작품들로 제작된 한정판 에코백과 엽서에 이어 조만간 2022년 달력도 만들어질 예정이니 많이 기대해 주세요!

On July 31, we held our 2nd annual Dream Art Contest Ceremony and Exhibition at The Source, OC. Over 300 people came by to appreciate, celebrate, and support artists with developmental disabilities. Congratulations In addition to the limited eco bags and postcards made with winning artists’ work, there will be 2022 calendars coming out soon! So, stay tuned as well

하모니아 앙상블의 인턴으로 합류한 케빈 장을 소개합니다! 케빈은 하모니아의 맏형으로서 모두에게 편안한 모임이 될 수 있게 이끄는 역할을 해왔습니다. 이제 앙상블의 어시스턴트로서 지휘자 선생님을 도와 모든 멤버들에게 따뜻하고 안전한 프로그램이 되도록 할 것입니다. 발달장애인에게 고용기회를 제공할 수 있도록 센터를 지원해주신 APCF에게 감사드립니다.
We are proud to introduce Kevin Chang, KASEC’s new Harmonia Ensemble Intern! As a big brother of Harmonia Ensemble, Kevin has been contributing to make Harmonia a welcoming place for all. As an assistant, Kevin will support Conductor Ryan to make the program smoother and safer for all members. Thanks to APCF for supporting KASEC to build better capacity for hiring individuals with developmental disabilities.

Birdie Buddies Golf Academy C/O 2020!
지난 6월 5일 한미특수교육센터의 제 1회 버디버디 골프 아카데미의 Matthew Chang, Joseph Park 두 학생이 캘리포니아 컨트리클럽에서 경기를 가졌습니다. 버디버디 프로그램의 첫번째 졸업생들인 두 사람은 경기를 보러 온 많은 사람들 앞에서 6개월간 갈고닦은 골프실력을 마음껏 뽐냈답니다.
2021년 가을학기에도 골프에 관심있는 새 학생들을 모집하고 있습니다. 프로그램 정보는 7월에 발송될 예정이니 이메일을 기대해주세요!
Our first Birdie Buddies Academy graduates Matthew Chang and Joseph Park had a game day at California Country Clubon June 5. After practicing for over 6 months, our proud class of 2020 showed off their golf skills to many who came to watch! For Fall 2021 semester, we are recruiting students who are interested in learning golf! Program information will be sent out in July–so, look out for an email!

This past Wednesday (June 30), we premiered Harmonia Ensemble Summer Virtual Concert Harmonia members practiced virtually throughout the spring semester and harmoniously performed for the virtual concert. If you missed it, don’t worry! Click the link below to watch the amazing performances from Harmonia. Starting Fall 2021, Harmonia is in-person again. An amazing artist Eunhye and her supportive family in Korea e-met Peter’s family in Atlanta, GA through KASEC’s Caricature Project. Since both Peter and Eunhye have love for art, they shared their passion by drawing each other! Watch how two families in two different countries build meaningful relationship by sharing their struggles, passion, love, and stories together!

5세 미만의 자녀를 키우신다면 발달선별검사에 참여해 보세요. 30문항으로 된 부모설문 형식의 온라인 검사로서, 시간예약이나 대면방문 필요 없이 집에서 하실 수 있습니다. 발달선별검사를 마치신 분들을 위해 추후 발달전문가들과의 소그룹 상담, 리저널센터 정보세미나, 부모 써포트그룹 등의 기회도 마련될 예정입니다. 본 행사는 캘리포니아 발달서비스국의 후원으로 진행됩니다.

No appointment needed, no visitation needed–parents will take 30 questions online There will also be small group consultations, Regional Center information sessions, and Parent Support group opportunity as well.
